Max Le Verrier – Bronzed Sculpture "Embuscade" (The Ambush)
An exceptionally elegant Art Deco sculpture by the renowned French artist Max Le Verrier.
Originally designed in the 1930s, this piece is a later version cast in polished, bronzed metal and mounted on a stepped beige base. The sculpture is titled "Embuscade" (The Ambush).
It depicts a javelin thrower—clad only in a cloth—in a taut, extended pose, gripping the stone-like surface firmly with his hands.
This fleeting moment before the javelin is released captures the magnificent tension of the muscles, the focused gaze, and the determination to hit the target. It is a wonderful artistic work, beautifully highlighted by the polished, glossy, brownish bronze finish, while the rough-textured base provides a striking contrast.

Condition:
The figure is in good condition, showing only slight, age-related surface signs of wear;
these blend with the bronze finish to create a beautiful, natural patina. We cannot say for certain
to what extent the javelin in the hand is intended to move; there is slight play, but it cannot be easily pulled out.
We have replaced the remnants of the original paper base protector with furniture-friendly felt pads.
The piece has been cleaned and waxed, and is ready for immediate display.
