Carl Deffner Candlesticks Modernist Art Nouveau
Beautiful 7 arm candlestick by Carl Deffner - Esslingen around 1900/1910.
An early example of German modernism, definitely influenced by designs by Bruno Paul.
Yet independent, delicate, simple and timelessly elegant.
Excellently crafted in the geometric Art Nouveau style. Brass, driven and pressed.
- Height: 30.5cm
- Width: 42cm
- Depth/diameter base: 15 cm
The candlestick is equipped with 7 candle holders, all of which can be unscrewed and dismantled.
This makes it easy to clean any potential wax residue (tip: place in hot/boiling water).
The base is hollow and equipped with a precisely fitting pewter weight on the inside (not visible) for stability.
The chandelier was completely restored, disassembled, cleaned and highly polished without taking away the character of a design classic that is over 100 years old. Of course, there are still minimal signs of wear due to age and material.
Marked on the underside with the maker's mark CDE with 2 crossed halberds.
