Ettore Sottsass Typewriter Olivetti
Olivetti Valentine S Typewriter – Ettore Sottsass
An exceptional design classic in the form of a typewriter by the famous Italian designer Ettore Sottsass.
This is the Valentine S model, manufactured by Olivetti.
Designed in 1969, it represents a wonderful piece of design history thanks to its slim, distinctive shape and portable case.
This model—which was also available in white, green, and blue—is featured in the Museum of Modern Art in New York and was famously owned by David Bowie, who wrote many of his song lyrics on a Valentine S. Bowie’s own unit was auctioned at Sotheby’s in 2016 for £45,000.
In today’s digital age, it remains a fascinating and fully functional object; typewriters have long since found a new following among enthusiasts.
This particular unit is in truly excellent condition.
It is a single-owner item and boasts a vibrant red finish.
The surrounding ABS plastic case is completely intact and perfectly preserved.
The black rubber retaining straps are supple—showing no signs of brittleness or cracking—and function perfectly.
All the rubber bumpers inside the case are also intact.
The typewriter itself is in wonderful condition, showing only minor signs of age-related wear. It comes with the original manual and the original cleaning brush. The Valentine allows for multi-colored typing; simply set the lever to the desired color to switch between options (e.g., black or red). Replacement ribbons are still available for purchase.
