Kaiser Idell 6722 "Baby" Bedside Table Lamp

A beautiful and elegant table lamp by Kaiser Leuchten Neheim, dating from the 1950s.
This is the Kaiser Idell model 6722, designed by Christian Dell.
Typically finished in ivory lacquer, this lamp originally served as a small bedside light in hospitals.
For this reason, it is much rarer to find today compared to the standard model 6556.
Its appearance earned it the nickname "Baby Idell"—a name that speaks for itself given its size and lovely hue.
However, it is a distinct design; aside from the ball-joint mounting brackets, it shares no components with its larger siblings. The shade is shallower and lacks the outward-rolled rim found on the larger models. The curved chrome arm and the base—featuring an internal cast-iron weight—are also unique to this specific model.
The combination of the internal cast-iron weight and the surrounding ivory-colored sheet-metal base explains why these models almost invariably show dents or compression marks on the base today.
Patients—tired and struggling to see in the dark—would often fumble unsuccessfully for the switch, knocking the lamp off the bedside table and leaving behind these telltale signs of impact.
This particular 6722 was no exception; the rim of the base bore such "battle scars," though these were largely repaired during restoration. Any remaining minor, barely perceptible irregularities are best viewed as patina.
We made a conscious decision against repainting, choosing instead to preserve the time-honored elegance of this classic—just as we do with so many of our lamps. Naturally, it was nevertheless completely disassembled, cleaned, polished, preserved, and professionally reassembled to its original specifications.
