Mid Century brass acrylic tablelamp
Elegant 1950s/60s Mid Century tablelamp
Beautiful vintage tablelamp which consists of a highly polished brass base in combination with an organic shaped, opalescent acrylic shade.
The choice of materials and form is very understated, yet beautifully designed, and its graceful construction gives it a visually light appearance. The V-shaped, slightly wavy base is fixed to the arm. A small joint and wing nut create a movable connection to the white, sail-shaped shade.
The shade is closed at the top with a polished brass disc and opens downwards in a flower-like way.
This lamp rarely appears on the art market, but it does occasionally surface. It is often attributed to Italian, as well as Scandinavian, manufacturers or designers.
However, we assume it is a German design, since these lamps are usually found in Germany,
and the craftsmanship, choice of materials, and the design itself reflect the sophisticated, modern, and understated elegance of the 1950s German designlanguage of the new economic time.
The Bauhaus designer Hanns Hoffmann Lederer, for example, designed and manufactured many organically shaped acrylic glass lamps during that period. The Cosack brothers in Neheim, along with designer Karl Heinz Kinsky, also produced such lamps. However, Temde would also be a plausible originator of this lamp.
Regardless of the design, which, as is often the case, will likely only become clear in the future when relevant catalogs, company archives, etc., are researched, the lamp is captivating even without proof of provenance.
