Temde Mid Century Desklamp
Mid-Century Temde Table Lamp
An elegant table lamp by the German-Swiss company Temde.
Founded in Detmold by Teodor Müller (TEodor Müller DEtmold), Temde made greater use of natural materials in the production of modern lighting than many other manufacturers of the era. Wood—such as walnut, teak, and maple—along with sisal, raffia, and various woven or cord-like materials, were incorporated into clean, minimalist designs, often combined with different metals.
This particular lamp draws inspiration from the timeless Scandinavian style.
There is a clear visual affinity to the iconic "String" shelving system.
The combination of a "warm" teak-veneered base and an elegantly curved arm—finished in a satin-matte black—paired with a fabric-covered, pleated-edge lampshade, perfectly embodies the Nordic design aesthetic.
The shade is adjustable and can easily be swapped for other standard shades within minutes.
In this instance, the original shade remains; its coarse-knit green wool fabric creates a wonderful, atmospheric quality of light.
